BAWAG P.S.K. AND EASYBANK CUSTOMERS NOW BENEFIT FROM THE ADVANTAGES OF DEBIT MASTERCARD

  • For each payment with the new Debit Mastercard in Austria, Mastercard donates a meal to the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations to support the school meal program in Rwanda.
  • Separately, BAWAG P.S.K. is supporting an educational project at Austrian kindergartens about healthy nutrition and environmental protection.

VIENNA, Austria - October 1st, 2020 – Secure and convenient online and in-store shopping and doing good at the same time. As of now, also BAWAG P.S.K. and easybank customers are able to do so. All new customers receive the new Debit Mastercard as of today. Starting off in November, the account cards of existing customers will be changed for free. While all conditions stay the same, the Debit Mastercard also offers great benefits: Customers can use the new account card to pay simply, securely and conveniently in the internet and benefit from more than 52 million points of acceptance[1] worldwide.

Debit Mastercard offers new shopping opportunities

The payment and purchasing behavior of Austrians has changed significantly, especially in recent months. Payment is not only increasingly being made at the cash desk with a card, but also the number of online purchases is rising. According to a study by Boston Consulting Group, cash payments have fallen by 39 percent. Debit card payments in Austria have also risen by 20 percent, and internet banking by 16 percent. The new Debit Mastercard supports this development, as it is the first account card that enables online shopping. With the standardized 16-digit card number, all customers of BAWAG P.S.K. and easybank can shop online easily and securely wherever the Mastercard symbol appears. "The popularity of digital payment transactions is also in Austria on the rise. We are happy to offer our customers more flexibility in everyday payments with the new Debit Mastercard. However, this is also a very special product launch for us, due to the social idea that is transported with each transaction," explains Thomas Csipko, Division Head Payment Solutions at BAWAG P.S.K.

Every purchase donates a valuable meal

With the new Debit Mastercard from BAWAG P.S.K. and easybank one can not only make purchases, but also do something for a good cause, because for each payment Mastercard donates a school meal worth € 0.20 to the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations World Food Programme.  The WFP is the leading humanitarian organization in the fight against hunger worldwide and reaches almost 90 million people in over 80 countries every year. Its goal is to create a world without hunger by 2030. " For several years we have been supporting the World Food Programme to provide much-needed school meals in Rwanda. We are proud to support this important initiative from Austria together with BAWAG P.S.K. and easybank", says Christian Rau, Country Manager, Mastercard Austria.

For the launch of the new Debit Mastercard, BAWAG P.S.K. supports an educational project with focus on children in Austria: The bank donates 8.000 € to the project "Esspedition: Healthy food for me and my environment" of the association Green Heroes Austria, which is also currently featured on the website crowdfunding.at. With this donation amount 200 children get the opportunity to attend a one-week workshop in kindergartens, where the topics of food, health and environmental protection are playfully taught. The aim of the initiative is to raise children's awareness of their own health and environmental protection as early as possible. The project can also be found and supported on the crowdfunding.at platform here.
