VIENNA, Austria - November 14, 2019 – For BAWAG Group, the remaining weeks of November are dedicated to the trend topics innovation, fintechs and technology: BAWAG Group is going to sponsor Austria's first "Zoohackathon" at Schönbrunn Zoo this coming weekend and hosts a panel discussion on the topic "Banking & FinTechs: Cooperation instead of Confrontation" at the "FinTechWeek Vienna" on November 20. Furthermore, BAWAG P.S.K. is going to support the "FinTech Hackathon 2019" from November 22-24 contributing two challenges for the development teams. Marcus Kapun, Chief Digital Officer of BAWAG P.S.K., explains: "We have been supporting hackathons for three years now and we are also very active in the area of fintechs. There are various reasons for this: we want to be present as an attractive employer for young talents, and we would like to take into accountnew approaches of young developers and innovative ideas of fintechs to further develop the technological progress of the bank".

Zoohackathon: Combating Wildlife Trafficking Through Innovation and Technology

This weekend, BAWAG Group is sponsoring Austria's first "Zoohackathon", which is organised by the US Embassy in Vienna in cooperation with Schönbrunn Zoo and the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs in Schönbrunn Zoo’s Elephant House. This year, the annual Zoohackathon takes place in 16 cities around the world. Developers, programmers, entrepreneurs and interested people from the age of 16 are invited to work on ideas for the protection of endangered species. BAWAG Group is sending mentors to the event and sponsors the prize of € 1,500 for the winning team. Interested techies can register here. "Zoohackathons" are organised internationally with the aim to develop technological solutions to reduce the global trade of wild animals. Ideas developed so far include apps to warn of wildlife product purchases or tools to locate poachers.

Panel discussion at FinTechWeek Austria

BAWAG Group is also engaged in the “FinTechWeek Vienna”: At an evening event on the topic "Banking & FinTech: Cooperation instead of confrontation" on  November 20, the company will provide insights into their partnerships with fintechs. At the panel discussion, representatives of BAWAG Group as well as representatives of partner companies, such as the online asset management company "Savity" and the credit platform, will discuss the challenges and opportunities of cooperations between banks and fintechs. “FinTechWeek Vienna" is an initiative for the Austrian ecosystem bringing together local finance companies and entrepreneurs from the fintech sector.

FinTech Hackathon 2019 with two BAWAG P.S.K. challenges

Analytical skills and creativity are required at the "FinTech Hackathon 2019" event, which will take place from November 22-24 at the "Talent Garden Austria" innovation space. BAWAG P.S.K. is on board as a sponsor and has developed two of the five challenges for the teams in advance: The first challenge invites developers and creative minds to develop new technological approaches and smart ideas for the individualisation of financial investments. "Challenge 2", which was developed in cooperation with BAWAG P.S.K. Versicherung, invites participants to create ideas to impart financial knowledge to children and adults. The teams will use synthetic data sets from the banking and insurance sectors as the basis for their analysis. The best approaches and most innovative solutions are rewarded with prizes. Furthermore, the winning teams will get a personal coaching in-house in preparation of presenting their ideas to the C-level of BAWAG Group and BAWAG P.S.K. Versicherung. Click here to register.
