• Newly designed BAWAG P.S.K. branch at Altmannsdorfer Strasse 230 in Vienna
  • Further branch openings planned in three Austrian regions this summer
  • Investment & Digital Banking: BAWAG P.S.K. expands range of customer events in its branches

VIENNA, Austria - July 12, 2019 – This week, BAWAG P.S.K. has officially opened a newly designed branch at Altmannsdorfer Strasse in the 23rd district of Vienna. This is the second branch in the new design in the Austrian capital. In the last 40 days, BAWAG P.S.K. has opened 15 new branches across Austria. David O´Leary, Member of the Managing Board of the BAWAG Group and Head of BAWAG P.S.K. Retail, explains: "I am very proud of our team, which has shown great commitment over the past weeks. Thus, we were able to make a remarkable progress in the redesign of our branch network with up to 100 independent BAWAG P.S.K. branches across Austria. We are very glad about the good feedback, which we have received for the new concept so far. Plus, we plan to open additional branches in still this summer.”

In addition to first-class, personal financial advice and in the interests of the “financial well-being” of its customers, BAWAG P.S.K. started to offer more information events in the new branches. Already on the second day, a customer event about securities investment took place at the branch at Altmannsdorfer Straße. In addition, digital banking is gaining in importance. That’s why, BAWAG P.S.K. has extended its range of digital banking information events.

Step-by-step wealth management: Information event for female investors

The first event in the new branch at Altmannsdorfer Strasse primarily addressed women. The aim of the "Finance Talk" event, which was organized in cooperation with Austrian women's magazine WOMAN, was to raise women's awareness for securities investment and to overcome reticence. Women, in particular, must take a proactive approach to old-age provision, because according to Statistik Austria, in 2017, Austrian women had, on average, 37.3% less yearly gross income than men, mainly driven by higher share of part-time jobs. For these reasons, it is especially important for women to manage their financial future proactively, as Petra Graf, Head of Private and Business Customer Sales for the Viennese region at BAWAG P.S.K., pointed out at yesterday’s event in Liesing: "We often compare the BAWAG P.S.K. annual advisory talk with the annual medical check-up. Similar to this, you discuss with our bank adivsors, whether everything is going according to your plan or whether something has to be changed. It is important to start the planning of your financial future at an early stage and discuss the plan regularly. Women in particular can benefit from this, because they have a higher need for old-age provision than men.”

At the event, investment strategist Hans G. Köck from Amundi Austria commented on the sustainability trend: "Sustainable investing is not a short-term trend, but is becoming increasingly important, also due to changes in investors’ behaviour. In the coming decades, sustainable investments will make a significant contribution to mastering the diverse challenges which we face. Moreover, sustainability and performance correspond to one another, as confirmed by a recent Amundi study."

More event offers for Digital Banking

BAWAG P.S.K. also focuses on events in its branches and the opportunity for discussions with its advisors when it comes to the transfer of digital banking know-how to its customers. Although the number of digital banking users in Austria has almost doubled in the last ten years, around 40% of Austrians are still shying away from using electronic banking services. In 2018, BAWAG P.S.K. therefore has launched the "Digital Hour" as a regular, interactive information event in which bank advisors explain the advantages and functionalities of digital banking to interested customers. A total of 262 "Digital Hours" were held last year.

Due to the good feedback and the high number of participants, BAWAG P.S.K. has expanded the range of digital banking events in 2019 and now also organizes so-called "Digital Days". Customers are proactively addressed on the subject of digital banking and invited to expand their digital know-how with short information sessions in selected BAWAG P.S.K. branches. Customers also receive useful advice on how to manage their day-to-day banking transactions. In addition, the bank is planning to offer customer events which address the functionalities of BAWAG P.S.K.'s new digital banking app "klar", which has been available to customers since May 2019.
